The resources in this unit have been developed for children at Key
Stage 2 who are still working at levels children more usually work
at in Key Stage 1. These children are often assessed as having Special
Educational Needs. All activities support the National Literacy Strategy
and use a multisensory approach taking into account visual, auditory
and kinaesthetic learning styles. Initially the emphasis is on learning
sight vocabulary and phonemes (sounds) in as many enjoyable and fun
ways as possible.
If a child has progressed through Key Stage 1 and is still struggling
with beginning to read then new materials are often more
stimulating.
If you are a teacher, teaching
assistant or a parent of a child finding it difficult learning
to read then we hope that these resources might help by providing
a fresh start. The materials are sold as a pack because the ideas
and activities used together will enable all users to know all
phonemes (sounds) and to read the high frequency words at Reception
level.
In order to see if these materials might suit your needs download
Assessment Sheet 1 - Initial Sounds
and Assessment Sheet 2 - High Frequency
Words
If your child knows all the
sounds but only half the words then wait for Unit
2.
If your child does not know most sounds and high frequency words
then these materials can help you. |
